12: Newton Abbot - Brixham

The 12 is a high frequency link between the major towns of the English Riviera, serving several major tourist attractions along the way. It runs every 10 mins Mon-Sat daytimes, every 15 mins Sunday daytimes and every 20 minutes each evening. It's run by Stagecoach.

The cheapest day ticket that is valid throughout route 12 is the Stagecoach Torbay Dayrider at £5 for an adult when buying on the Stagecoach app. Buying a paper ticket from the driver will cost you an extra 50p.

You can look up single and return fares on Stagecoach's website. For some longer journeys, the Torbay Dayrider described above acts as the default single or return ticket.


If travelling further afield, then the Stagecoach South West Explorer, at £8.30 for an adult buying on the Stagecoach app (a paper ticket bought on the bus is currently £9.10), is valid over a wider area. As well as the full route of the 12, it is also valid on all Stagecoach buses in Devon and Cornwall. It is not however valid on the Falcon coach service.


If you need to use other operators' buses too, then the Devon Day Bus ticket at £9.60 for an adult, is for you. It is valid on all bus services throughout the county of Devon.



If arriving in Newton Abbot, Torquay or Paignton by train, you can buy a Torbay Plusbus ticket, which is valid the full length of route 12.

72: Plymouth - Polperro

The 72 connects the city of Plymouth with two of Cornwall's prettiest seaside resorts. It runs every 2 hours daily. The operator is Go Cornwall Bus, part of Go Ahead's Plymouth Citybus. Please check their website for service updates.

It then stops on Western Approach:

... at North Cross, and then this stop on Pennycomequick Hill at Plymouth Railway Station. Go over the footbridge for the trains.

Tickets


The cheapest day ticket that is valid throughout route 72 is the Zone 4 Dayrider at £9.00. It is also valid on all other Go Cornwall Bus and Plymouth Citybus routes.

If you'll only be travelling within Cornwall, then the multi-operator Cornwall Dayrider at £5.00 is the ticket you need. It's valid on the 72 between Saltash and Polperro and on all buses of all operators throughout Cornwall.

If you'll only be travelling on the 72 between Burraton and Plymouth, then you can use the Plymouth Citybus Zone 2 Dayrider at £5.00. It's also valid on all Go Cornwall Bus and Plymouth Citybus services in zones 1 and 2, which includes Plymstock, Plympton and Ivybridge.

Single and return fares can be looked up here, with the relevant day ticket acting as the default ticket for some longer journeys. An adult single between Plymouth and Polperro is currently £9.00, for which you'll get a Zone 4 Dayrider, described above.


If you also want to use trains, then Ride Cornwall at £18 is the ticket you need. It's valid on all Go Cornwall Bus and First buses and all trains in Cornwall, plus over the border to Plymouth. The only condition is that all journeys have to either begin or end in Cornwall.


Plymouth has a multi-operator ticket called the Skipper. At £5.40 for an adult, it is valid on the 72 between Plymouth and Burraton only, but also on all buses of all operators in and around the city of Plymouth.


If you'll be travelling only within Devon, then the DevonDay ticket at £9.60 is valid on the 72 between Plymouth and Burraton only, but also on all buses of all operators throughout the county of Devon.


If you're arriving in Plymouth by train, then a Plymouth Plusbus ticket has the same validity as the Skipper ticket. On the 72 it is valid between Plymouth and Burraton.
