The X3 connects the capital of Wales with foodlovers' paradise Abergavenny, and on over the border to Hereford. It's operated by Stagecoach and runs hourly between Ponntypool and Abergavenny, every 2 hours to Hereford and 4 times a day to Cardiff Mon-Sats. It's operated by Stagecoach. The cheapest day ticket that is valid throughout route X3 is the Stagecoach South Wales All Zones Dayrider at £8.70, which is valid on all routes operated by Stagecoach South Wales, with the exception of route T4 north of Felinfach.
If you need to connect with buses of other operators in South East Wales, then the Network Rider at £9 for a day is valid throughout route X3 and on most bus operators' services in South East Wales.
If you're arriving in Hereford by train and are only making local journeys, then the Hereford Plusbus is valid on the X3 between the Country Bus Station and Haywood Turn only.

From many points on the route, you can catch direct trains to/from Cardiff and other destinations. Transport for Wales operates most of the trains on these lines. You can easily look up rail fares here. Cardiff to Hereford by train costs £25.50 for an adult single or £24.70 for an off-peak (travel after 0930 and not between 1600 and 1830 weekdays, anytime weekends) day return.
